Ten years after its creation, the scientific and political success of the European Research Council is uncontested. A powerful and innovative mechanism for promoting European research, it brings strong international recognition to frontier research. Nearly 7000 projects of very large scientific scope have been funded in ten years and 6 ERC laureates have received the Nobel
