The Foundation

Founders & Governance

The Jean-Marie Lehn Foundation—International Research Center at the Frontiers of Chemistry—is supported by both leading institutional and industrial founders and a governance structure closely tied to the Strasbourg scientific community.

Together, they share a common goal: to provide long-term support for excellence in chemical research in Strasbourg, building on an exceptional scientific legacy. Drawing on this tradition of excellence in chemistry, the Foundation aims to carry this momentum into the future by supporting the most ambitious and innovative projects.

Our Founders

One of France’s largest multidisciplinary universities in terms of student and staff numbers, the University of Strasbourg is recognized for the quality of its research and its dynamism in innovation. It plays a leading role in chemistry at the national and European levels and draws on a strong interdisciplinary approach to tackle major scientific and societal challenges.

As a world-leading research organization, the CNRS is distinguished by a long tradition of excellence. In Strasbourg, its research units in chemistry and related fields contribute significantly to the international reputation of French research.

As a major player in the chemical industry, BASF has long maintained close ties with the scientific community in Strasbourg. This partnership has taken shape, in particular, through the establishment of a laboratory at the Institute of Supramolecular Science and Engineering (ISIS) and through BASF’s commitment as a founding member of the Foundation, via multi-year financial support.
