Chemistry is at the heart of transformation
Digital transformation (AI):
Making faster discoveries, selecting leads more effectively, optimizing processes, and reducing the number of trials, to accelerate, for example, the discovery of new drugs.
Transforming society:
Recycling and repurposing waste; securing critical resources, particularly through the recycling of batteries, as well as electronic equipment and key materials.
Notable discoveries made in Strasbourg
Recycling "impossible" plastics
In Strasbourg, Bobine is tackling a blind spot in recycling: plastics that are currently neither recyclable nor recovered. Its innovative process aims to transform this waste into a recycled material with properties comparable to those of virgin plastic, closing the loop and restoring value to materials that would otherwise end up in incinerators or landfills.
Rare earths: securing a critical resource
Rare earth elements are everywhere: in electric vehicle motors, wind turbines, electronics, and more. Yet their production remains highly polluting and concentrated in just a few countries. Remedy is developing a method to better separate and purify these strategic elements, with the goal of reducing the environmental impact of refining. This is a key lever for strengthening European self-sufficiency, and making better use of recycled resources in the future.
Simulating a quantum computer before building it
QPerfect offers a new technology that enables the “virtual” testing and optimization of quantum computer architectures. Its simulation platform helps identify the best options more quickly and reduces the need for hardware testing. The result: virtual quantum computers with unmatched performance and lower development costs.
