The Strasbourg Institute of Medicines

Our shared goal: To advance
research for a healthier world!

Unique in Europe, the Strasbourg Institute of Medicines (IMS) brings together 200 researchers united by a common goal: to advance medical research. Within this community, a true spirit of mutual inspiration drives teams that exchange ideas and collaborate every day, breaking down disciplinary barriers to accelerate the discovery of innovative treatments. By supporting the IMS, you are directly contributing to this collective effort to serve the patients of tomorrow.

Research Areas at the Strasbourg Institute of Medicines (IMS)

Cancer

At the IMS, several teams are developing new approaches to fighting cancer, ranging from nanomedicine and targeted immunotherapy to an understanding of DNA repair mechanisms in tumor cells. This research paves the way for more precise and better-tolerated treatments for patients.

Pain

Understanding the biological mechanisms underlying chronic pain is at the heart of the research conducted at the IMS, particularly regarding the receptors and signaling pathways involved. These discoveries have already led to innovative therapeutic approaches aimed at relieving pain that is currently difficult to treat, such as neuropathic pain.

Inflammation

Researchers at the IMS study the inflammatory processes underlying many chronic diseases, focusing in particular on the interactions between the immune system and surrounding tissues. A better understanding of these mechanisms makes it possible to identify new therapeutic targets to curb inflammation at its source.

Diseases of the Nervous System

In the fight against neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, IMS teams are exploring strategies to protect and regenerate nerve cells. Other research focuses on the immunology of the nervous system and the development of peptide therapies targeting neurological autoimmune diseases.

Diseases of the Digestive System

The IMS conducts research on the interactions between the immune system and the digestive system, which are essential to understanding chronic inflammatory bowel diseases. This research aims to develop more targeted treatments and minimize side effects for patients.

Infectious Diseases

IMS teams are developing new therapeutic molecules and antibodies to combat infectious diseases, drawing on a detailed understanding of the mechanisms of infection. This research helps anticipate and combat both common infections and emerging threats.

Rare Diseases

Often overlooked by traditional research due to a lack of a sufficient market, rare diseases benefit from dedicated research at IMS, driven by committed teams. Every advance is particularly important for these patients, for whom treatment options remain very limited today.

Why get involved with the Institute's researchers?

1.

Every breakthrough, every discovery is another step forward in the fight against diseases that directly affect you or your loved ones.

2.

Pass on a healthier world to future generations—to your children and grandchildren.

3.

Because it doesn't just happen to other people… With the COVID-19 crisis, we're all realizing howimportant it isto be able to take good care of our health.

4.

Supporting the institute means helping to bring drug production back to Europe and ensuring thatwe receive proper care in the event of a global health crisis.
