The Jean-Marie Lehn Foundation is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Prof. Roeland Nolte, professor emeritus of organic chemistry at Radboud University in Nijmegen (Netherlands) and chair of the Foundation’s Scientific Advisory Board since 2018.
Roeland Nolte, 79, was a member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and held a special chair at the Academy in molecular nanotechnology. Roeland Nolte was considered one of the pioneers in the field of supramolecular chemistry. He published numerous studies on supramolecular assembly, biomimetic catalysts, and their applications in the fields of nanomaterials and medicine.
Always attentive and caring, Roeland Nolte was a cornerstone of the foundation, contributing his scientific expertise to the Strasbourg chemistry community. He worked tirelessly alongside the foundation to promote scientific excellence, encourage innovation, and support researchers in their ambitious projects.
The Foundation, its president Bernard Meunier, its director Thomas Ebbesen, and the entire team extend their sincere condolences and support to his family and loved ones.
